UPMC Hamot and New York Health System Move toward an Affiliation

ERIE, Pa., May 24, 2012– UPMC Hamot is pleased to announce that the Lake Erie Regional Health System of New York (LERHSNY), composed of Brooks Memorial Hospital, Lake Shore Health Care Center, and the outpatient sites of TLC Health Network, signed a letter of intent to enter a strategic affiliation with UPMC Hamot.

LERHSNY engaged in a comprehensive evaluation process to examine options for a strategic affiliation with a larger health care entity. Recently, the LERHSNY Board of Trustees and its top administration determined that UPMC Hamot was its best option to ensure a sustainable future for LERHSNY and advance quality health care for the patients of Northern Chautauqua County.

LERHSNY noted in a public letter that a strategic affiliation with UPMC Hamot would provide LERHSNY with key clinical and operational expertise, higher levels of quality care and patient satisfaction, support for comprehensive physician development and recruitment efforts, strategic planning assistance, and investment in capital equipment and state-of-the-art technology.

Leaders at UPMC Hamot and LERHNSY are now finalizing the legal documents that will formalize a strategic affiliation.
