UPMC Hamot Services

Why Choose Us?

Intensive care units (ICUs) are highly regulated departments designed to provide care for UPMC Hamot's most critically ill patients. The three ICUs treat a variety of life-threatening illnesses. In 2001, UPMC Hamot became the first hospital in the area to utilize intensivists. Intensivists are physicians who specialize in caring for critically ill patients in the ICU. UPMC Hamot's intensivists are board certified in both critical care and internal medicine. They provide leadership to the critical care team and monitor patients. Studies have shown that critical care units that utilize intensivists have lower mortality rates.
