The Division of General Surgery at UPMC Hamot is composed of eight surgeons with close to 130 years of combined experience. Their training stems from different academic and community-based general surgery programs in the United States with both military and civilian backgrounds. They possess a large breadth of knowledge in dealing with both routine and complex surgical problems. All are certified by the American Board of Surgery Fellows in the American College of Surgery and American College of Oseopathic Surgeons, demonstrating both a commitment to excellent care and ongoing education.
The general surgeons at UPMC Hamot have dedicated themselves to the advancement of their field including numerous hours of training and continuing education in minimally invasive surgery techniques and robotic surgery. A surgeon is on call at UPMC Hamot 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. UPMC Hamot is the only hospital in the region to offer 24/7 coverage for general and trauma surgery and is a Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation (PTSF) accredited Level II Trauma Center.
