Why Choose Us?
A hospitalist is a physician whose primary professional focus is the general medical care of hospitalized patients. The hospitalists at UPMC Hamot are all trained in either internal or family medicine. They work directly with a highly-skilled team of physician assistants and nurse practitioners who also care for patients. Together, this team is available, when needed, to interpret test results or answer questions the patient may have. Patients under the care of a hospitalist typically have shorter hospital stays because the hospitalist team can respond at any time to a medical issue, helping advance a patient's care plan.
Hospitalists coordinate and oversee the care of the hospitalized adult patient from the time they are admitted to the time they leave the hospital. They are on-site and available to respond quickly to changes in the patient's status and avail themselves to family. The hospitalist team is in constant communication with the patient's primary care physician; therefore, the transfer of care at admission and discharge is seamless. The development of the UPMC Hamot hospitalist group is another indication of UPMC Hamot's commitment to superior care both in and out of the hospital.
